This is the personal blog of Ian Ker, who was Councillor for the South Ward of the Town of Vincent from 1995 to 2009. I have been a resident of this area since 1985. This blog was originally conceived as a way of letting residents of Vincent know what I have been doing and sharing thoughts on important issues. I can now use it to sound off about things that concern me.

If you want to contact me, my e-mail is still ian_ker@hotmail.com or post a comment on this blog.

Democracy Bares Its Teeth - and Defeats Col's Bastard Amalgamations

I have nothing but admiration for the three communities that each managed to meet the demanding requirements for a binding poll to kill off forced local government amalgamations. More on this tomorrow, but for now my heartiest congratulations and sincere thanks to those who drove and supported what must have been exhausting campaigns for the future of their local councils and for the future of democracy in Western Australia.

I was very proud to be able to celebrate with the South Perth crowd after the count - and, yes, despite the close call on the turnout percentage, I did have faith and already had a chilled bottle of champagne in the car. Well done Cecilia.
