This is the personal blog of Ian Ker, who was Councillor for the South Ward of the Town of Vincent from 1995 to 2009. I have been a resident of this area since 1985. This blog was originally conceived as a way of letting residents of Vincent know what I have been doing and sharing thoughts on important issues. I can now use it to sound off about things that concern me.

If you want to contact me, my e-mail is still ian_ker@hotmail.com or post a comment on this blog.

South Perth: So Near Yet So Far

Vote returns 6th February 2015 (includes votes that will be rejected as invalid, but excludes hand-delivered votes) with special second delivery to come plus walk-ins today and tomorrow.

City of Cockburn                       36.77%
Town of East Fremantle          51.72%
City of Kwinana                         51.82%
City of South Perth                   49.45%
Town of Victoria Park              37.81%

Votes still needed for 50% (but remember need to add a bit for invalid votes). On the other hand, the Electoral Commission figures are stated to be for votes received via Australia Post. They should not, therefore, include votes lodged at the polling places - and we don't know how many of these votes there are.

City of Cockburn                          8,189
Town of East Fremantle                -88
City of Kwinana                             -331
City of South Perth                         147
Town of Victoria Park                2,455

It gets progressively harder to get the votes out - half of those you contact now will already have voted and the other half, by definition, are those who are less likely to vote.

South Perth needs to get people hand-delivering their votes to the South Perth Civic Centre today and Saturday - up to 6pm Saturday.
