This is the personal blog of Ian Ker, who was Councillor for the South Ward of the Town of Vincent from 1995 to 2009. I have been a resident of this area since 1985. This blog was originally conceived as a way of letting residents of Vincent know what I have been doing and sharing thoughts on important issues. I can now use it to sound off about things that concern me.

Kalamunda and Cockburn Formally Opt Out.

So now three of the Eight Governor's Orders (Swan/Mundaring; Bayswater/Bassendean; Belmont/Kalamunda) now have one party saying it wants no part of it.

Two of the Governor's Orders (Stirling and Melville) are purely consequences of those affecting Canning/Gosnells, Subiaco/Cambridge and Bayswater/Bassendean.

Subiaco and Serpentine-Jarrahdale will almost certainly join the opting out.

The Canning community certainly wants to opt out, although the Commissioners' position is unclear.

That leaves a big fat zero, Col.

 UPDATE 8pm. Serpentine-Jarrahdale Council has passed a similar resolution.

    Re Canning

    The Commissioners' aren't stating a position, however they are stating the Canning community's position.

    1) From the letter dated 11 February from the CEO to Minister Simpson re 13 January Special Electors meeting (why did it take a month?)canning.wa.gov.au/images/stories/Letter_to_Minister_-_Minutes_SME.pdf

    "The Commissions have requested that I emphasise the strength of resolve of the Canning community on the issue of local government Reform and the community's fervent desire for the process to be reversed."

    The rescinding of Governor's orders will only take those of us in West Canning so far as we have yet to hear from the Mayor of Melville and Dr Nahan about their positions. Refer your post 3 November "Nahan Doesn't Understand - Are We Surprised". I don't trust either of them to see the writing on the wall.

    Not sure Canning's community extends to all the electors. Only a few thousand supported the Fight For Canning campaign. What now?

    Question how many of the no voters in the weekend elections ever turned up to a community meeting?
